Banks urged to lend more to West Bengal textile sector

Manas Bhuniya, West Bengal Minister for Micro and Small Industries, has urged banks to boost lending to the textile industry in the State. Speaking at a seminar on textiles, he said it is distressing that banks are not extending adequate assistance to the textile industry in the State.

Land and finance are the two major issues that the textile industry of the State is confronted with, and added that the current government has been making active efforts for revitalizing the industry.

The Minister informed that the Centre has approved the plan for setting up the All India Institute of Textile Technology at Nadia district in West Bengal. Besides, a huge industrial park involving an investment of Rs 1.0 billion is also proposed to be set up in Murshidabad, with Centre’s assistance.
