Country is growing market for European
brands
The current volumes of sales by European brands in India is
not very big and hence, there is a growing market in India for
the European brands in the next five years, according to Mr.
Burak Baykaldi, India Representative of Orta Anadolu, a Turkish
firm that is renowned as one of the major innovation leaders of
jeans and sportswear.
With its vision to be the preferred supplier to the leading
global brands, Orta Anadolu exports its denim fabric to both
global manufacturers and internationally recognised brands like
G-Star, Mavi, Levis, Little Big, Tommy, Diesel, Replay, J Brand,
Miss Sixty, D Squared, Paige, and GAP.
Currently, European brands are in the entry level in the
Indian market. Bigger brands like Levis and Pepe have a more
dominant presence and other European Brands are expanding
through licensee operations. The current volumes are also not
big. However, we foresee a growing market for the European
brands in the coming five years.
Mr. Burak said India is an expanding market for both global
retail brands as well as for Jeanswear manufacturing and we plan
to enter Indian market in two stages. In the first stage, we are
considering migration of production of global brands both from
Europe as well as from the US to India. In the next stage, our
interest lies with the licensee production of global brands,
which are opening up to retail in the Indian market as well as
the expanding local Indian brands.
