LYCRA® fiber

In the decades following its introduction, LYCRA® fiber technology found its way into all sorts of clothing and accessories, dramatically improving fit, feel and flexibility: stockings stayed up better, swimwear refused to bag or droop when wet, and bras and foundation garments no longer bunched and pinched.

Since the early 1980’s, diapers and other personal hygiene products have also experienced the benefits of LYCRA® fiber. LYCRA HyFit™ fiber is a distinct product specifically designed to meet the needs of  customers in the hygiene industry.

Comfort and Fit

The LYCRA® brand means freedom of movement to consumers around the world. Hygiene products with LYCRA HyFit™ fiber accommodate a wide range of sizes, providing fit and comfort for babies and adults. LYCRA HyFit™ fiber offers excellent stretch and recovery for a gentle fit around the legs. It also allows garment designs to be thin, quiet and discreet.

Reduced manufacturing costs

LYCRA HyFit™ fiber is designed for continuous running which can provide significant cost savings by minimizing downtime and fully utilizing each package down to the core. It also has higher retractive force than rubber, resulting in three to four times more yield.

T837 LYCRA HyFit™ fiber – Latest Innovation

INVISTA’s most recent breakthrough for the personal care and hygiene market, T837 LYCRA HyFit™ fiber, is unlike any previous version of LYCRA® XA® fiber. T837 is made from a new formulation that is based on an existing polymer. It simultaneously reduces fiber-to-fiber tack without negatively impacting creep performance.

With lower take-off tension than previous LYCRA®XA® fiber, T837 can improve the consistency of package delivery with less opportunity for tension spikes. This unique product offering also makes it possible to explore reductions in glue add-on rates to further reduce manufacturing costs. A patent application has been filed for this technology.

Sustainability

INVISTA Stretch Performance Materials is committed to driving innovations such as T837 fiber that can help the industry reduce the environmental impact of products through the value chain. Focus areas include minimizing waste, reducing emissions of air and water pollutants, improving energy efficiency, reducing water usage and maintaining safe and healthy products, processes and workplaces.

Debuts CORDURA® Brand fabric based on 770-decitex Yarns

INVISTA’s latest CORDURA® brand fabric offering for workwear is based on 770-decitex high tenacity Nylon 6.6 textured yarns, giving wearers the ultimate strength-toweight ratio. The 770-decitex fabric provides a lightweight and durable solution for the reinforcement of garments exposed to extremely heavy wear and tear where wearer mobility is a prime concern. CORDURA® brand fabrics based on 770-decitex yarns were originally engineered to meet military requirements for lighter weight load carriage without sacrificing on wear life in tough environments. Now its use is expanding to meet the needs of those workers in traditionally heavy-duty jobs like construction, roofing and carpet and flooring fitting.

“Many workers need tough fabrics that will keep up with their even tougher jobs,” said Dr. Tim Anson, European CORDURA® Brand Business Manager. “We are encouraged by this development because we feel the CORDURA® brand fabric based on 770-decitex yarns will serve as a great solution for work garments that need to perform well under strenuous wear.”

In comparison to CORDURA® brand fabrics based on 1100-decitex yarns, CORDURA® brand fabric based on 770-decitex yarns achieves a weight reduction in the region of 18 to 20 percent, with a minimal reduction in tensile strength. Now garment makers can add toughness to their products without adding much weight, allowing garments to offer optimum worker mobility and comfort with extra durability.

Known for its resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs, CORDURA® fabric is a primary ingredient in many of the world’s leading high-performance gear and apparel products ranging from luggage, upholstery and backpacks to footwear, military equipment, tactical wear, workwear and performance apparel.
