Yarn clearing – perfected by Uster Technologies |
 |
|
The
Uster Group is one of the leading high technology instrument
manufacturers of products for quality measurement and
certification for the textile industry. The Group provides
testing and monitoring instruments, systems and services
that allow optimization of quality through each individual
stage of textile production; from the raw textile fiber,
such as cotton, wool or synthetic filament yarns, to the
final finished fabric. The Uster Group provides benchmarks
that are a basis for the trading of textile products at
assured levels of quality across global markets. The Group
is headquartered in Uster, Switzerland and operates through
a worldwide Market Organization complemented by Technology
Centers. It has sales and service subsidiaries in the major
textile markets and Technology Centers in Uster
(Switzerland), Knoxville (USA) and Suzhou (China). |
This is yet another landmark year for Uster and its
world-leading quality assurance systems. Following on from its
dual celebration in 2007 of 60 years of evenness testing and 50
years of Uster Statistics, 2010 is the 50th anniversary of the
yarn clearer.

The current Uster Quantum 2 is the
best-selling yarn clearer ever. This success is based on
continuous development, in response to the needs of
customers, making the Uster Quantum 2 an indispensable tool
in spinning plants all over the world. Almost two million
Uster clearers of the Quantum generation have been sold to
date!
The future has a
past
Uster’s long tradition in establishing
standards for the textile industry worldwide, as well for
quality testing along the fiber to fabric process route, is
well known. That proud history is the origin of the slogan
‘The Future Has a Past’, which will underscore the company’s
presence at ITMA Asia & CITME 2010 in Shanghai. It means
that while recognizing the achievements of the past, Uster
is constantly looking into the future. |

Even
in the kind of challenging market environment which faced the
textile industry in 2009, research and development at Uster was
focused and strongly driven. “Customers are entitled never to
expect less than the full innovative power of Uster,” says
Dr. Geoffrey Scott, CEO of Uster Technologies AG.
At the exhibition, Uster will present its latest range of
testing instruments, underlining their value to spinning mills
and classification offices, as well as to knitters and weavers.
The ‘Think Quality’ approach pioneered by Uster encourages and
equips companies to participate in the market upturn, as the
industry shows positive signs of growth.
Quality translates into
profitability
The mission for modern spinning mills centers on two main
tasks: to satisfy customer needs – and to do it profitably. To
achieve both tasks with the highest possible efficiency,
spinning mills need to control a number of basic and fundamental
parameters which affect both quality and costs.
One of these is the raw material. The task here is to
maximize the yield and minimize waste – especially when we
remember that raw materials equate to 55% to 65% of total
production costs. Another vitally important aspect to control is
overall process management, and this is possible – in an
efficient and sustainable way – only with appropriate
instruments, measurements and systematic analysis.
All the critical process stages in spinning, such as blowroom,
carding, combing, drawing, ring spinning and winding, are
efficiently managed with Uster products and solutions, leading
to process optimization and maximized throughput. Essential
tools like Uster HVI and Uster AFIS, Uster Tester 5 and Uster
Tensorapid, Uster Quantum 2 and Uster Expert software, along
with Uster Statistics, provide the key to effective spinning
process management.
Long experience worldwide proves that quality management
incorporating Uster expertise and solutions always leads to
profitability.
A vital principle of the Uster approach involves the proven
combination of offline (laboratory) and online quality control.
These complementary disciplines help quality managers to
eliminate claims, by ensuring that yarn meets customers’ quality
requirements.
