Man-Made Fibers Congress (Dornbirn-MFC)
Push of innovation despite crisis
The effects of the financial and energy crises on the real
economy and subsequent cost-saving measures must not obscure our
sight towards a positive future.
The 48th DORNBIRN-MFC dedicates 2½ days - the time to reflect
and develop models for solutions how to implement more
quality-minded, innovative, sustainable,
environmentally-friendly, resource-saving findings from industry
and academic research into optimized manufacturing processes and
multi-functional, market-suitable products.
The section LAST MINUTE HIGHLIGHTS with a maximum of 6
lectures was put at the end of day 1 and 2 and will be announced
at the congress and in advance on our homepage
www.dornbirn-mfc.com.
Climate change as main theme
Climate change is the main topic in the lectures of the 48th
DORNBIRN-MFC. Communication among the participants will be
facilitated due to the formation of Lecture Modules and a slight
decrease in the total number of presentations.
Again more than 100 expert lectures
The programme committee had to select out of a large number
of highly-qualified proposals more than 100 lectures in such a
way, that the preliminary programme (foreseen for a mailing in
March 2009) shows already a maximum degree of details of what
can be expected in September. This should enable many interested
persons to make use of the early-bird bonus valid until 31st of
May, 2009.
The plenary session on the opening day will include e.g a
lecture of the Zoological State Collection Munich/Germany on the
topic: Climate Change – Biological View; from the American
Chemical Society Washington/USA a lecture on “Green Chemistry”.
The AVK (Association of Composite Manufacturers)/Germany will
present market-development trends for composites, and CIRFS/Brussels
will speak about development strategies for the European
Man-Made Fibers Industry. Following a tradition the Paul Schlack
Prize will be awarded for an outstanding work in the field of
basic research.
Among the individual lectures the topic NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN
FIBERS (incl. bicomponent fibers and nano technology) comprises
some 30 lectures and will be presented during the whole duration
of the congress. FIBERS FOR MEDICAL AND HYGIENE TEXTILES (incl.
smart textiles) with almost 30 lectures along with the section
FIBERS FOR COMPOSITES, TRANSPORTATION AND PROFESSIONAL WEAR with
some 25 lectures underline the importance of these topics. The
sections FIBERS AND TEXTILES IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
(incl. water management, geotextiles, agrotextiles) is
consisting currently of some 7 individual lectures. The latest
EU RESEARCH PROJECTS will be presented in 4 lectures.

Lead event in quality
The DORNBIRN-MFC will remain positioned as the
European/American lead event and maintain access to the
impressing potential of the Man-Made Fibers Industry and the
scientific/technical potential of universities and institutes
for the largest possible audience of innovators,
opinion-leaders, developers, product responsible persons but
also students and young successors.
DORNBIRN-MFC is keeping the prices at last year’s level but
would like to link it with an appeal to all decision-makers and
persons responsible for the budget to support actively our
endeavours. The latest trends and developments in the field of
Man-Made Fibers can be seen at the upcoming conference.
