The International
Textile Asia 2009 Exhibition, one of the most promising
and enduring event to be held for the 6th successive year
at the Karachi Expo Centre from 05 - 08 April 2009 is the
official event of the Federal Ministry of Textile
Industry. The event is being organized at the most
opportune time when the government is looking forward to
modernize and upgrade the textile sector of the country
for better quality products and enhanced productivity. The
exhibition aims to focus on the immense buying selling
potential of textile & garment machinery, accessories, raw
material supplies, chemicals and allied services under one
roof. |
Soft launching ceremony of Textile
Asia 2009
The soft launching ceremony of 6th International Textile and
Garment Machinery Show was held on 19th March 2009. The Federal
Advisor on Textile, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig was the Chief Guest
of soft launching ceremony. Textile Commissioner, Mr. Idress
Ahmed, President, Ecommerce Gateway, Dr. Khursheed Nizam, Mr.
Sohail Aziz, Executive Director and Mr. Abbas Mooraj, President
TEXMAP were also present at event.

Mr. Sohail Aziz, Executive Director, Ecommerce Gateway
delivered the welcome speech and President TEXMAP, Abbas Mooraj
also addressed the soft launching ceremony of
Textile
Asia 2009.
Textile Commissioner of Pakistan, Muhammad Idrees Ahmed in
his speech said that $ 7 billion were invested in textile sector
of Pakistan in plant and machinery between 1999 to 2008 for
capacity building.
Federal Advisor on Textile, Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig while
addressing the soft launching ceremony said, “presently there
were about 90 sick textile units which were closed in 2008.
These old units will be merged and revived”.
He added, “government was working on liquidation laws and
bankruptcy laws for a respectable closure of business. Failure
and success is a part of the business and entrepreneurs should
be allowed to declare bankruptcy and liquidation of failed
business”.
Referring to measure to boost country’s textile exports, Dr.
Baig said that the government has hired two top consultants of
the world, M/s Werner International of USA and M/s Gherzi
International of Switzerland to find out weaknesses in Pakistan
textile exports and to suggest ways and means to boost exports.

Talking about high cost of doing business, the Advisor said
that the country will get away from a cross subsidy which was
benefiting fertilizer business at the cost of industrial sector.
The efforts were being made to get duty access in EU for the
textile sector. Much progress has been made at the joint
ministerial meeting of Pakistan and EU in this regard. He
promised to give duty free access in EU.
Talking of incentives to textile sector, he said that duty
drawback on local purchase will be provided to exporters and
Textile Ministry has moved a summary to the government in this
regard and this is a substitute of R & D scheme.
Dr. Baig also said that exporters have started receiving
amount against R & D claims involving Rs. 4 billion and the
payment against the remaining Rs. 6 billion will be made to
exporters soon. And in the end he appreciated the efforts of
Ecommerce Gateway in organising the exhibition and also wished
that Textile Asia 2009 will attract the foreign investors
towards the potential of Pakistan’s textile and garment sector.”
President Ecommerce Gateway, Dr. Khursheed Nizam while
speaking to media said that Pakistan is striving to increase its
textile and garment exports. There is a huge potential for
international textile and garment machinery manufacturers to tap
this market, which is at the lookout for replacement and
upgradation of existing machinery.
