Itema Group
Somet and Vamatex at ITM 2004
Somet and Vamatex merged into one company under the
name Promatech. During 2002, the Itema Group, also acquired Switzerland-based
Sulzer Textil (renamed Sultex Ltd.). Promatech and Sultex together
represent the world's number one producer of weaving machines, totalling
247,700 installed machines in more than 90 countries

Alpha Rapier Loom
Promatech S.p.A., exhibited a range of machines by Somet
and Vamatex at ITM 2004. The Somet Alpha 1900 Hi Drive for a linen
shirting fabric and Alpha 3200 Jacquard for patterned gauze and the
Mythos Tec 3400 for sheeting were on display at the exhibition.
Leonardo Silver 2200 Hi Drive by Vamatex was exhibited for a stretch
dress fabric, the Leonardo Silver 3600 Hi Drive in gauze and the Leonardo
Dyna Terry 2600 jacquard for beach towels were also on display at
ITM.
Alpha Rapier Loom
Promatech highlights four main characteristics of the Alpha: quality;
productivity; reliability and versatility. The heart of the loom,
the filling insertion system, is available in two ribbon race versions;
the GFG, which guides the ribbon on both sides of the machine for
maximum versatility; and the MFG, which offers high performance with
a single guide on only one side of the machine. The Alpha can be used
for a wide variety of yarns.
Promatech demonstration center in Colzate, Italy offers a trial room
for customers to test weaving machines before making investment decisions;
and a showroom for demonstrating the many examples of Vamatex and
Somet machine lines weaving a broad range of fabrics.
Promatech has recently made several developments in its machines.
For example its new innovations are automatic control of pile height
for terry machines, automatic timing of the weft cutter, and the new
HI-DRIVE electronically controlled machine drive system.
The HI-DRIVE motor is optional for the Vamatex Leonardo and Somet
Alpha weaving machines. With the HI-DRIVE option, machine speed can
be controlled and programmed by the microprocessor, which can produce
fabrics with variable pick density to obtain desired effects, run
each filling yarn at suitable speed, and may prevent start/stop marks
resulting from high-speed starts.
Agreement between ITEMA Group
and the Uzbekistan Government
A Protocol Agreement for the supply of machines for
the textile industry of Uzbekistan was signed recently at the Promatech
head offices in Colzate (BG), between Mr. Miro Radici, C.E.O. of Itema
Group and Azamkhon Bakhramov, minister of the Uzbekistan Government
and President of Uzbekegilsanoat, a Company representing the light
industry of the Government of Uzbekistan.

L to R Mr. Miro Radici, C.E.O.
of Itema Group with Azamkhon
Bakhramov, minister of the
Uzbekistan Government and
President of Uzbekegilsanoat
During the meeting Mr. Bakharamov gave details of the
project of the Uzbekistan Government which, in its final shape is
to increase the capacity of processing the cotton in the country,
doubling the quantity of the finished product in three years, as today
is only 20% of the million and two hundred thousand tons of the cotton
annual production.
Globally an operation of 1.3 billions of dollars, of which around
600 millions to be utilised for the purchase of machinery for the
spinning and weaving sectors.
In the signed Protocol it is clearly emphasised the great interest
of the Uzbekistan Government to cooperate with the Itema Group, particularly
with Promatech and Savio, both for the high-tech level of the machines
produced by these two companies and for the capacity to serve customers
with a reliable after sales service. The latter is an element that
strongly influenced the choice for Itema Group against competition.
This is a great opportunity for the two companies of the group that
thanks to the high quality-price ratio of their products, have the
chance to enter in a very promising market that could ensure many
future orders.
