ACIMIT Foundation
awards for Italian textile technology students
During an award ceremony at the head offices of the
ACIMIT Foundation, ACIMIT Past President Mr. Angelo Vanali and ACIMIT
Director, Mr. Federico Pellegata, handed over 9 grants with a value
of €800 each to a total of 24 students from 5 Italian colleges
of textile technology (Bergamo, Biella, Como, Prato and Varese), winners
of the annual ACIMIT Foundation Awards for research into issues of
relevance to the textile machinery industry (spinning, knitting and
finishing).
A further 5 research studies presented by another 6 students, were
given a special "mention" due to the hard and important
work carried out by these students. The Award Committee, therefore,
deci-ded to hand over a "half-prize" (€400) to the
students behind these research studies.
Teachers from the various colleges involved were also present at the
ceremony to hand over the awards. ACIMIT's work with colleges and
teaching institutes is not limited to grants but includes the preparation
and distribution to students and teachers of a series of publications
covering Italian textile manufacturing technology.
ACIMIT Foundation has just put the finishing touches to 5 "Text
Books". These Text Books are specifically prepared for colleges
of textile technology, describing the most common technology used
in the spinning (wool and cotton), chemical fibre, weaving, knitting
and finishing sectors.
To ensure that these books match teaching needs as closely as possible,
their preparation has been entrusted to a broad-based group of teachers
from colleges of textile technology. This editorial group has performed
its task with great enthusiasm.
The success of the initiative has been so big (more than 15,000 copies
have already been printed) that the Textbooks have also been translated
into English, in order to distribute them, in CD-Rom, to the most
important foreign textile institutes and universities, and into Chinese,
so that they can also be distributed throughout a textile country
as important as China.
