Investments in Turkey
Turkey is the second-largest textile nation in the world. In the
first quarter of 2003 the Turkish textile industry had 40,728
companies, and out of which, 9563 firms received subsidies from
the Turkish government to invest in this sector, with 822,664
new jobs.
In Turkey the share of investments in the textile sector has increased
significantly as compared to other sectors. For example, one fourth
of the investments of 2003 are have been made in the textile sector.
In the first quarter of 2003, the total investments which were
held within the scope of incentive and directed towards all the
sectors were 4 quadrillion 75.1 trillion TL. In January-April
period, a 2 quadrillions 292.3 trillions TL portion of the investment
projects were completely new investments and a 1 quadrillion 9.2
trillions portion of them were expansion investments. The remaining
portion was composed of finishing, renovation, quality control,
modernization, integration, increasing the products in variety
and financial leasing investments.
In terms of regional allocation of textile firms, 80% of the garment
industry is composed of SMEs. Textile sector comprises of 40,000
firms, mainly large enterprises, of which 1/4 are exporters. A
significant number of large scale garment firms are in Marmara
region, whereas textile firms are mainly in Southeast Anatolia,
Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara regions. The biggest shares
in manufacturing sector belong to weaving and garment sub-sectors
in order of importance.
It may be pointed out that Turkish companies have already made
investments of $50,0000 million since 1991 alone in European technology
and European textile machinery manufacturers, specially from Germany,
Italy, Switzerland and Spain are expected to showcase their latest
technology for the Turkish textile market in ITM 04.
Istanbul - an ideal venue
Istanbul, the capital of textile industry of Turkey and the transition
point of world textile, is right in the center to meet Turkish
and world machine producers. With its easy transportation possibilities,
infrastructure and accommodation capacity, Istanbul has evolved
into an ideal host venue for the textile machinery show. It is
possible to travel daily from Istanbul from more than twenty countries,
as Istanbul is an important meeting point for land, air and marine
transportation. Its high quality and economic accommodation possibilities,
entertainment, culture and shopping centers with a history of
more than 2750 years has enough potential to be the host of exhibitors
and visitors from all around the world.
Tuyap Fair Centre in Istanbul
Tuyap Fair Centre in Istanbul is an ideal venue as this city unites
Asia and Europe by ferry or airline. Its strategically favourable
location has been an additional advantage, in addition to the
designated textile capital of the Middle East and the Balkans.
The Tuyap Fair Centre has a total of 121,000 sqm of exhibition
area - 52,000 sqm indoors and 20,000 sqm outdoors.
Turkey is expected to be a new hub for textile machinery technology
after Europe, and it continues to draw international interest
with its potential, experience, skilled labour work, low cost
production and quality. Turkish textile industry should take the
advantage of all opportunities and ITM in Istanbul is also a part
of this globalization strategy.
The machinery exhibition of such magnitude, where both manufacturers
and buyers of textile machinery meet and new business relationships
are formed is essential for a dynamic textile industry. Fairs
offer the most appropriate ambiance for building international
business relationships, in addition to the display of latest textile
technologies.
Most of the visitors will be coming from Turkey's neighbours and
exhibitors from a total of 16 countries will display an impressive
range of exhibits:
The exhibit categories include:
· machines and accessories for processing cotton.
· spinning machines and accessories.
· machines for technical textiles and nonwovens.
· warp preparation ranges, looms and accessories.
· circular knitting machines and accessories .
· machines for dyeing, printing and finishing.
· textile chemistry.
· laboratory equipment.
· CAD/CAM/CIM applications and automation.
· other textile machines.
ITM (International Textile Machinery) Exhibition will
make its debut from 1-6 June 2004. The organizers expect
this show to blossom into a mega show for textile machinery
in Turkey and the Middle East, and some are even hoping
that this will rival ITMA ASIA and eventually become the
second-largest exhibition of this type after ITMA .
ITM 2004 will be an ideal exhibition for the representatives
of many countries who could not go to ITMA and the number
of visitors who go to ITMA has been limited due to various
political and socio-economic constraints. The industrialists
can not take their technical managers and personnel to Europe
due to new and somewhat stringent immigration rules and
regulations or at least due to the Asian buyers' perception
regarding the immigration rules. However, buyers from Asian
countries such as China, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Bangladesh
and also Turkey are ones who are now buying the most recent
and modern technology.
Both European and Turkish textile machinery manufacturers
and their Turkish representatives will be interested in
ITM 2004 as a platform to display their latest machinery
and a chance to show their selected |

customers their installation in and around MARMARA Region.
The most important reason for the commitment to ITM TURKEY is
the success of BUR-TEX Exhibition and the experience gained
by the organizers which has led to this first edition of ITM
to be staged in Istanbul.
