Another bolting revolution by
Hytorc
As has been
ever since 1967, HYTORC has invented yet another ‘Super-Tool’

Small, handy,
lightweight, fast and torque-accurate, these are the features of
a newly patented pneumatic torque tool - ‘The FLIP™’ from HYTORC,
Division UNEX Corporation in Mahwah, NJ. With one hand on the
pistol grip and the other on the run-down handle, pre-torque of
fasteners for parallel joint closure is accomplished in a Zip
with up to 1,800 rpm. Once the flange is pre-torqued, a flip of
the wrist turns the run-down handle into a reaction arm and
high-speed into high precision torque for a quick and vibration
free, precision assembly of all joints.
The FLIP™ is
available in 4 sizes for a torque range between 200 and 5,400
ft.lbs. and bolt sizes from ” to 2” diameter.
Its target
market is the industrial market of impact wrenches, the only
wrench that up to now provided the speed to get back on line
ahead of time. The only wrench pipe-fitters like to use.
However, in the
age of ergonomics, the inherent inaccuracy, vibration and the
echoing sound of impact guns brought about major changes in
recent years causing some companies to ban the use of impact
wrenches and switch over to pneumatic torque wrenches.
While pneumatic
torque tools are accurate and do neither vibrate or echo, they
are slow. Something needed to be done to create a vibration- and
echoing free torque tool with the speed of an impact gun.
HYTORC, the
inventor of all major improvement in Hydraulic Torque Tools
since over 3 decades, took up the task.
From a Safety
point of view, dual-speed torque tools are limited to not more
than 100 rpm to avoid injury with swinging reaction arms. Safe
1,400 to 1,800 rpm required the same out of the box thinking as
it took to reach a given pre-torque for parallel joint closure
at high speed with planetary gear systems. Neither is normally
feasible.
The standard
FLIP-gun has an aluminum motor housing and pistol grip, which
for mining is made out of steel.
