Oerlikon Barmag: WINGS convincing
under production conditions
Only 3 days after delivery, the first two
WINGS units commenced yarn production under real conditions. For
the very first time, the revolutionary POY concept is being
tested under production conditions at their long-term
development partner, Trevira GmbH. This marks the kick-off of a
trial phase at the Bobingen site destined to last several
months, during which high-end yarns with various titers and
parameters will be manufactured for the automobile industry
using the WINGS systems.
The benefits of the plug-and-play unit
launched in September 2007 on the occasion of the ITMA in Munich
also convinced Sudhir Singh. Head of Production at the Trevira
Group: "Margins in the yarn market are becoming increasingly
tight. WINGS' simpler string-up procedure is time and space
efficient. It results into considerable savings in terms of
manpower and waste."

Compared to conventionally-made yarns, the
reduced yarn deflection angle generates yet more even qualities
of the yarns spun on a POY system using WINGS. Correspondingly
happy with the first test results is Thomas Flessenkemper. Head
of Filament Maintenance at the Trevira plant in Bobingen: "100%
of the quality data were achieved even with the first part of
the initial batch that was spun. We now eagerly look forward to
the tests with even more complex products over the following
next few weeks."
The winder as a complete take-up machine
removes the spatial separation of godets and winders common
today. Developed with the objective of increasing the
productivity and efficiency of POY systems, the new concept
bears the solution in its very name: Winding Integrated Godet
Solution in short WINGS.
