Mayer & Cie reports increase in sales of circular knitting machines

Mayer & Cie recorded a 5.2% increase in sales of circular knitting machines in 2007, with sales amounting to 1,690 units. Among its product portfolio, the company said that its Relanit is one of the world's most productive single jersey machine series, and was the best seller last year with 520 units sold. Other good performers included BASICLine machine range available in both single and double jersey markets.

According to Mayer & Cie, the circular knitting machine market is characterized by the mechanical machine sector which in turn is dominated by the single jersey market.

Demand for electronic machines is limited to niche fashion segments and to suppliers in other specialist fields of the textile industry. Outside of Europe, the strong Euro exchange rate against the dollar posed an additional challenge facing all European manufacturers.
